The first written mention about Vitkovice comes from 1606. A legend tales about two brothers called Vitkove who escaped into the Giant Mountains forests in the era of Hussites. After the Hussites´ wars, they established a farm. Vitkovice is called after their name „Vitkove“. One of the estate owner was Albrecht from Valdstejn and after his death owned Vitkovice Harrachs´s clan. And they tried to renew the glass and iron production interrupted in consequence of the Thirty Years War. In the 17th century cabin and chalet building developed, especially in Misecky.
Vitkovice v Krkonosich it is skiing centre Aldrov, situated 733 metres above sea level. Ski area Aldrov offers excellent skiing conditions for beginners as well as for advanced skiers.
The pistes in Aldrov skiing cente are fitted with snow-guns. The region offers good conditions for cross-country skiing. There is and ski and snowboard school (rope ski lift, ski school for children, trips with skies) in the area. In summer season, Vitkovice is an ideal place for hiking and cycling. You will find a lot marked trails and paths in the surrounding. It is possible to use an indoor swimming pool in hotel Jasmin in Vitkovice. The Hucul farm offers horse-riding services and arranges mountain trips on horseback for experienced riders and sleigh rides in winter season.
