CONCLUSION OF THE MONASTERY
Krkonose Museum The KRNAP Administration in Vrchlabí, which closed its doors to the public at the beginning of October 2017 and remains inaccessible until 2021, passes through the new Visitor Center of the Krkonoše National Park.
During the reconstruction, you will find the museum staff and the museum library at Husova Street at No. 218. Other contacts remain unchanged.

Giant Mountains Museum / Monastery
The Giant Mountains Museum in Vrchlabí was founded in 1883 as the Riesengebirgsmuseum by the Austrian Krkonoše Society to "explore the nature, history and man of the Krkonoše Mountains and collect collections that prove it. Since 1966, it has been established by the KRNAP Administration, is housed in a former Augustinian monastery building and carries more than 32,000 records of collections from various fields of social and natural sciences. They represent the Krkonoše public in permanent expositions, exhibitions, accompanying programs and events.
Permanent exhibition "Stone and Life"
The series of 14 rooms has a logical succession - from the explanation of the main events in the mountain nature through the lessons on the geological development and composition of the Giant Mountains, the influence of the mountain climate, snow and avalanches on the living nature, to a series of prominent examples of Giant Mountains ecosystems (Bučina and Spruce, grasslands, ridge arcto - alpine tundra, glacier carpet, spring and peat bogs).
Wildlife samples - a model of flowing mountain stream that is revived by plants, fish and birds, terrariums, representing the most famous representatives of Giant Amphibians and Reptiles, have the task of giving visitors a contribution to the interpretation of the "relaxation" guide to modern audiovisual techniques that are other previous rooms.
Basic tour 100 minutes, short program 60 minutes, short children program 30 minutes. Besides the Czech version, the German, English, Dutch and Polish versions are also available.
Permanent exhibition "Man and Mountain"
A permanent exhibition about the history of the settlement of the Giant Mountains is in the cloister of the Augustinian monastery. The exhibition looks at the most important components of human activity on mountain nature from the beginning of the historical period until the end of the 19th century and in the part depicting the life of the "Krkonoše people" until the thirties and forties of the century.
It represents the gradual penetration of man by the richness of the mountains, conditioning the development of metallurgy, glassmaking, building and forestry, scientific knowledge and tourism. Apart from the main themes, the exhibition also gives attention to the legendary spirit and the Lord of Krkonoše Mountains in Krkonoše while watching the development of its form.
