The mountain centre Rokytnice nad Jizerou is situated 520 m above sea level. Location of this important town in the west Giant Mountains – surrounded with hills from all sides, in valley of the Jizera river, Hutsky, Cerny and Rokytnice creek. Rokytnice nad Jizerou belongs to the places in the Giant Mountains which was already settled in the half of 16th century. The first inhabitants mined wood and also copper, slug and silver. The others started a little bit later with hand weaving. In 19th century was the home weaving pushed back by manufacturing. Important is also local glass tradition. Glassworks have been in operation since16th century. Also the famous glass family Schuller worked here. To Rokytnice belong settlements Frantiskov, Studenov and Vilemov.
