Try ski mountaineering routes around Trutnov

  • Venue: Trutnov

The route to Rýchorská bouda is especially suitable for beginners or undemanding ski mountaineers. The whole trip can be managed in 3 hours. From Trutnov it is necessary to get to the starting point of the route, to Svoboda nad Úpou. In previous seasons, the ski bus ran from Trutnov, but this year it is out of operation due to anti-epidemiological measures.

From Svobodské nádraží, the road leads along the yellow tourist sign to Rýchory. The first ascent (to Kraví hora) will reward you with a view of Sněžka and the adjacent hills. These panoramas cannot be overlooked and will assure you that you are going in the right direction. Then you will climb around the hunting lodge Pašovky to the Rýchorský ridge.

Then you have several options: a gradual descent back to Svoboda nad Úpou, or continue along the ridge with the final descent to Albeřické údolí, or Žacléř. From here you can use the ski bus again, which will take you back to Trutnov.

Hikes around Pec

Two other routes around Pec pod Sněžkou are located in the first zone of the Krkonoše National Park, most of them are marked only with poles, so it is very important to plan your route properly before the trip. You will meet more technically demanding sections here, so we recommend the following types to more experienced ski alpinists. To the starting points to Pec pod Sněžkou, you can again use the direct ski bus connection from the Trutnov bus station.

From Pec pod Sněžkou, take the gradual ascent along the red road to Modrý dol. In the area of the Blue Mine, you are moving in avalanche terrain, so be extremely careful and follow the principles of safe movement. In the section from Modrý dol to Výrovka, the road is marked only by poles. From Výrovka, you go down the green past Richter's huts. You can indulge in refreshments only at Výrovka, Richter's huts have not served the public since this season. You can be back in Trutnov in 4.5 hours, including a snack stop.

Another route, this time a bit physically and time consuming, starts again from Pec pod Sněžkou, this time following the blue sign to Obří dol. The route continues from the Silesian House to the highest peak of Sněžka to the red one. Be extremely careful when transitioning. The highest mountain is often very frozen. Sněžka is impassable for most of the winter due to extreme weather conditions, so we recommend walking down the yellow. In the lower part you can put on your skis and go down to the upper station of the cable car on Růžová hora and continue through the cable car to Pec pod Sněžkou, or further along the yellow cable car to Velká Úpa. The route will take you at least 5 hours.
