This longspreading village Lanov is situated 462 m above sea level, under the Giant Mountains. Lanov lies along the creek Male Labe (Small Elbe), east of Vrchlabi. The village consists of two parts – Horni Lanov and Prostredni Lanov. There is a large lime-pit which was established in the same time as was built the Josefov Forst. It is possible to see Lanov and the whole Giant Mountais from air. Local public airport offers sightseeing flights and also other services for general public. Winter tourist attractions are scooter rides and dog-team races.
First written mention about the Lanov village comes from the 14th century. The main living sourse of local inhabitants was agriculture and from the 17th century also home textile production. In 1775 Lanov inhabitants took part in unsuccessful peasant uprising when was occupied the Vrchlabi castle. In 1778 Lanov valley was site of a bottle about for Bavarian heritage. In the 19th century rose lime mining and textile production.

The innovation for summer 2006 is direct connection by the „cyclobuses“ from Trutnov to Pomezni Boudy (Pomezni chalets) and from Vrchlabi to Spindlerova bouda (Spindler chalet).
