22.04.2021
When: April 22, 2021
Where: Vrchlabí, Administration of the Krkonoše National Park
Earth Day celebrations take place on April 22 every year. Due to the current situation, we cannot prepare the usual Earth Day celebration for local schools with activities in the Vrchlabí castle park and the KRTEK ecological education center.
For those interested, especially schools, there is a manual of simple games that everyone can try, there are also instructions for the production of a tit booth, a bird swimming pool or an insect hotel.
In addition to this offer, those interested can take advantage of a long-term offer of online education. The Department of Environmental Education of the Krkonoše National Park Administration has prepared eleven lectures suitable for online teaching of primary and secondary schools. Visiting lecturers project presentations with an accompanying word into virtual classrooms and communicate directly with students. In this way, they can present the issue of the Giant Mountains in any school in the Czech Republic.
Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 at the initiative of American politicians and students. The event aims to open a public debate on improving the environment, increasing energy efficiency, recycling waste and looking for renewable energy sources. In 1990, Earth Day celebrations became the largest organized demonstration in history. The celebration was attended by 200 million people from 140 countries. April 22 became International Earth Day. In the Czech Republic, Earth Day events have been held since 1991.
