Harrachov lies 686 metres above sea level and belongs to the most visited sports and recreation centres in the western part of the Giant Mountians, especially for its location near the border with Poland (boarder crossing Harrachov – Jakuszyce). The well known ski jumping area is located directly above Harrachov, on Certova mountain. Ski jumping ompetitions of the World championship in ski jumping take place on the biggest one. Glassworks made Harrachov famous abroad before it became the most popular tourist and sport resort of the western Giant Mountains. Tradition of the first-class hand made broad, cut but also engraved, painted and differently decorated glass was established in district Ryzoviste and later in Novy Svet. The original village Dörfl has been evidenced since 17th century near Seifenbach (Sejfsky, now Ryzi brook) and it was renamed at the beginning of the 18th century by the owners of Harrachov (originally Harrachsdorf). Settlements Novy Svet and Ryzoviste joined Harrachov after the Second World War. And then Harrachov got railway connection across Korenov with Tanvald.
