Benecko lies 1000 meters above sea level. Benecko belongs to the highest situated villages in the Giant Mountains. Benecko is located on the south slope of Zaly mountain (1036 m above sea level) in the 3rd zone of The Giant Mountains National Park and you will nowhere find more sunny days throughout the year than just in Benecko. There are 4 groceries, private bakery, glass shop and souvenir shop in Benecko. „The Dum sluzeb“ (House of Services) consists of a shop with sports goods, chemist´s, laundry, post office, disco wine-bar A-CLUB, café Harlekyn and telephone exchange.
The historical heart of Benecko was the Stepanice castle from 13th century. According to the Balbin chronicle, Jindrich Jan from Valdstejn govern in this area. Nowadays, only ruins of a bastion and defense system are situated on the place of the former castle. Benecko dates back to the year 1628. The founder of Benecko was probably Benes, that´s why the name Benecko. A legend tells about a hermit of the St. Benedikt friary and about a hart who was his friend. That is the origin of the mark of the village – hart´s head with a cross between horns.
Benecko – centre of skiing and all winter sports surprises you with its unforgettable panorama views and views of the Giant Mountains ridges – Kotel 1434 m above sea level. Cross-country skiing lovers appreciate maintained tourist and racing cross-country skiing trails with the lenght of 50 km. These trails connect Benecko with Spindleruv Mlyn – other skiing and snowbording resort. Benecko offers ideal conditions for children, beginners and snowboarders.
